This is a story about hope and friendship… and a gerbil named Peppy. Peppy the gerbil was found in a pet store, all alone. He was blind. No one wanted to take this poor little guy home because he seemed “defective.”


Eventually, though, he found a loving home and some best friends. His story will melt your heart.


For the longest time, no one wanted to adopt Peppy. It's unsure why his eyes never opened. But then, a kind soul took him home. He began to tentatively explore his new surroundings... But he needed a friend. So Peppy was introduced to another disabled gerbil named Chilly. He was born without feet on his back legs. They were fast friends. Then, Chilly's brother Lil Rowdy joined the group. Life couldn't be better. Or filled with more naps. Peppy made an awesome pillow. peppy11 But soon, Chilly and Lil Rowdy passed away. That's when Peppy met Conrad. Then, the pair got a new neighbor. Life was good again. The neighboring gerbil even joined their group. His name was Nemo. As Peppy got older, he had to eat soft slurry because he lost his teeth. Eventually he passed away, but not after living a long life with close friends.

Life will never be perfect, even Peppy knew that. But, there are things in life (like family and friends) that make it worth living. Embrace the friends you have. Appreciate the little things. Live your life like Peppy did: by loving it!
